Pickleball Complete were delighted to be part of the inaugural East Kent Pickleball event!
With a hundred players taking part from within a fifteen-mile radius of Canterbury, Kent, it showed just how popular Pickleball is in the local area.
Competition took place over 6 courts, with 4 teams per court each team comprising two men and two ladies. Each match comprised of two gender and four mixed pairs matches against the other teams.
With some creative team names such as Dinkin Donuts, Court Jesters, Heavy Dinkers, Old time Bangers and Rolling Scones there was a lighthearted feel to the competition.
Once play got underway the competitive juices started flowing and three rounds of fierce but fair competition took place over the 6 courts…
Playing each division on a court throughout meant that 3.5 and 3.0 were split into two divisions each.
Drum roll… the winning teams were as follows:
A single division of 4.0 – 4.5 had the victorious team:
- Dinkin Donuts of Scott Tift, Sheena Maclean, Doug Neve, Kirsty Robertson.
Two divisions of 3.5 saw Champions as follows:
- Dynamo Dinkers team of Phil Saxby, Julie Daley, Barry Chapman, Rebecca Hunt.
- Herne Bay Hotshots team of Dan 2 Walker, Sue Toye, Ian Cooke, Anne Gibbs.
Two divisions of 3.0 had the winners:
- Old Picklers – Paul Taylor, Ann Tuck-Brown, Philip Hamilton, Julia Georgio.
- Slap & Pickle – Mark Ball, June Pennick, Richard Smith, Cathy Yates.
In terms of organisation, the day flowed well and kept to timings plus the playing conditions at the university were spot on.
There was a lovely buzz in the hall all day and plenty of fun and laughs through-out!
Our thanks go to the co-organisers, to the University of Canterbury staff and to the Picklers who took part in the first event.
In a nutshell, it was a super first event for the East Kent Pickleball League and we are already looking forward to the second day in April!
The next EKPBL session is on Saturday 13th April 2024 at Canterbury Christchurch University starting at 9am.
